Questions about cleansing?

Yes, cleansing is a daily ritual for most, but are you getting the most out of your routine?

  • What temperature should the water be when I wash my face?

Lukewarm water is the best bet for lathering up with your favourite cleanser. Hot water is dehydrating and can strip oils from your skin. Lukewarm water helps to remove dirt and sebum without stripping. If you’re prone to redness, you can even use cool water, which helps to constrict blood vessels.

  • What is double-cleansing?

Literally, double-cleansing is cleaning your face twice. Although it seems tedious, it can make a huge difference in your skin! Ideal for people who live in polluted or urban climates, or if you wear a lot of sunscreen, it helps remove debris, oil, and makeup effectively.

Step 1: Use a cleansing oil, like Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil, to dissolve makeup and impurities

Step 2: Follow up with your favourite skin-type specific cleanser to gently cleanse and purify skin.

  • Should I remove my make-up before I workout?

Yes! To avoid make-up and sweat mixing and clogging your pores, remove makeup before your sweat session! Your best bet? Keeping a pack of cleansing towelettes in your gym bag!

  • Is there a specific way to dry my skin after cleansing?

Yes, you should gently pat dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing, this will only agitate your skin, and don’t worry about making sure it’s 100% dry, skin should feel slightly moist and not bone dry. Also, use a separate towel from your shower towel, which could have build-up of potentially aggravating products, soaps, or bacteria.

  • How often should I exfoliate?

Generally speaking, you should exfoliate 2-3x per week. If you’re using a physical exfoliator, like a scrub with small granules, gently massage in circular motions, being careful not to over agitate. For a gentler exfoliation, use a clean washcloth to massage your cleanser into your skin.
